"Strange Craft" FAQ, pt. 2: Specific Questions
« Reply #15 on Jul 2, 2007, 6:42pm »

--> "Strange Craft" FAQ, pt. 1: Overview

Specific questions:

  • What about those strange symbols?

The craft of the Bakersfield, Ca. area and Capitola, Ca. sightings have some writing in strange letters on the underside of at least one blade each. Though subject to some controversy in various discussions, those letters don't resemble any earthly font (such as Kyrillic, Hebrew, Katakana, etc.). And they are not some Klingon font, although there is some vague resemblance. (And it isn't Aurek-Besh from "Return of the Jedi" or the "Matrix" code font, either.)

Here's an example from the craft photographed over Capitola, Ca. by 'Chad' :

And here's a very good overview over the complete set of symbols spotted in both sightings:

[Note: 'Outer', 'Middle', and 'Inner' are references to the segment of the respective blade on which the symbols can be found.]

An anonymous source who goes by the alias of 'Isaac' claims to have worked on those symbols. According to him, they are actually not writing of some kind, but visible parts of circuitry ('self-executing programming language') developed by one or several ET races. 'Isaac' further claims that from 1984 to 1987, he was part of a top-secret project named CARET (short for: Commercial Applications Research for Extra-terrestrial Technology), which was allegedly located at Palo Alto, Ca. In a camouflaged building, he and other civillians allegedly worked under strict military security on how to make this technology, which allegedly came from several crashed ET craft, commercially available. For more on this, see the thread "Explanation of the Recent 'DRONE' Sightings" in this forum. (Note: This thread has been locked. The new thread can be found here.)

Here's one example of the symbols 'Isaac' claims to have photocopied at the CARET facility:

The entire set of symbols is available as an SVG file for download (thanks to onthefence):

In addition, there's a font available (doesn't match the symbols exactly, but comes reasonably close), which can also be downloaded, and which was created by cage1978. The zip archive is password-protected; the password is 'www.openmindsforum.com'.

  • What does 'PACL' stand for, actually?

PACL is the abbreviation for Palo Alto CARET Laboratory (pronounced: packle).

  • Did you already find out what fonts were used for the CARET documents?

    Yes (see below):

    Quote:
Palatino ...designed by Hermann Zapf at the German branch of Linotype. It was released in 1948 ...

Franklin Gothic ... designed by Morris Fuller Benton (1872-1948) in 1902.

  • Could it be that those drones are some kind of (earthly) top-secret military technology?

This is actually hard to say, but judging by the resources especially on military drones, which are available on the Internet, those craft are at least several decades ahead of everything we have (at least of everything that has been publicly acknowledged).

There are indeed a number of drones by the U.S. military which look somewhat similar. But: Aside from the 'outlandish' look of those 'strange craft', the main difference is the propulsion system, which seems to be something along the lines of electro-(anti)gravity. (Those craft are definitely not powered by any kind of 'duct fan'/jet engine.)

Several examples of U.S. military drones which bear (at least visually) some resemblance to the 'strange craft' to whom this FAQ is dedicated:

    1.) 'The Whirl' by Raytheon

2.) Multipurpose Security and Surveillance Mission Platform (MSSMP)

Organic Air Vehicle (OAV) by DARPA

    Online articles:

  • Do those craft match objects spotted in other UFO sightings?

There is at least one sighting from Italy (2002 - 2006?; no accurate date is given) where a craft with a somewhat similar appearance was videotaped. For a cleaned-up version of this video, see here [requires Flash].

Two cropped screenshots from the video (at first, the craft moves from right to left; it then changes directions several times):

    [image] [image]

And: a) An article about this video; b) the related thread inside this forum.

Interesting in this case is the following quote from said article (URL see above):

"According to Paola Harris the original videographer remains unknown and the object seems to be terrestial in origin, more properly some kind of military prototype remote controlled. The feature in which the disc dissapears at the end raises questions for the italian researchers and Paola thinks the military may be involved."

Another UFO mentioned in connection with the 'drones' is a craft also sighted & photographed over Italy on July 1, 1999:

    [image] [image]

  • I read somewhere that those craft could in fact be 'energy monitoring drones'.

You are probably referring to this article at UFO Casebook. As with any other question, there's no definitive answer at this point. Nevertheless, there are several online articles available on this aspect:

  • What about those strange, bent antennae on top of those craft?

As a reminder, here's a photograph made by 'Chad' in the 'general Bakersfield, Ca. area', where these antennae are clearly visible:

An unnnamed engineer has an interesting explanation, which he gave to Linda Moulton Howe of Earthfiles:

"The circular design of the body with the antenna bent in an almost 'candle-like' fashion, combined with the 360 degree array, permit for a possible phased array with a directional sensing ability. This is due to the signal being able to strike the antenna array from one direction and then back scattering across what would be the inside of the ring. From this, a differential can be made and direction calculated based in part on signal strength among other things. It should be noted, too, that the angle of the bend on each element permits a nearly vertical aperture perspective, enabling higher flying craft (or lower flying, as the case may be) to be able to communicate with this ring-drone; a sort of look-down-look-up communicating ability with no loss of sight. The bend also enables a variety of frequencies to be 'sniffed'; they are not uniform in the sense of being a straight rod as we see commonly as in a television antenna. This is bent and bent for good reason. Without knowing the diameter of the ring I can't guess accurately what the frequency range would be that this ring-drone would be designed to transceive. If I got it right, there are 14 elements, evenly spaced about the ring body, each being approximately 25.7 degrees apart. Length, spacing, forward element, rear element, all come into play to figuring out the detail and without some sense of dimension I'd hesitate to offer anything. Once this is known, the operating frequency range can be more accurately known. No doubt it is millimeter."

  • Could those craft possibly be propelled by some application of the 'Biefeld-Brown' effect?

This cannot be verified at this state. Nonetheless, you can find further information on an application of this effect in an online article about the so-called LifterCraft. In addition, please, see the related article at Wikipedia.

  • What about the possibility of this being just some kind of viral marketing campain?

This has been/is being discussed here at length (see here). There have been some excellent points made, that--given, that this is in fact something along that line--this was not a good way to conduct business/sell a product. (The respective company may even get themselves into legal trouble.)

Two examples of airborne craft from the Halo 3 game (a number of sources claimed to have found some kind of connection between this and similar games and the 'strange craft'):

    [image] [image]

Obviously, none of the craft displayed here matches the craft we are talking about.

Additionally, two examples from the Halo 3 comic [requires Flash]:

    [image] [image]

Especially the symbol in the last frame is taken as proof for the 'viral marketing campaign' explanation (see the photograph below):

  • Could it be that those craft are just some 3D renderings (read: hoax)?

There is actually a very controversial discussion on this going on in here. One member of this forum created several 3D renderings/video animations. Below, you find a CGI (short for: Computer-Generated Imaging) still of the craft sighted/photographed at Big Basin, Ca.. Both modelling and rendering were done using Lightwave. (This is just a test rendering without texturing, though.)

At Coast to Coast, there's another video available, showing a CGI drone during take-off. This video was also done by saladfingers, who did the other renderings as well.

    Another example of CGI:

The original photograph (cropped) as provided by 'Isaac' (left), and part of a 3D rendering of a similar craft (right; software: Lightwave):

    [image] [image]

    And yet another one:

Textured, color-corrected, slightly blurred rendering (left); untextured (right):

    [image] [image]

-- 'Chad' drone (left); new CGI drone (right) --

Btw, there's a thread now on the analysis of alleged shadow inconsistencies in one of the photographs from the Capitola, Ca. sightings by Raj.

The final answer to the above question (CGI or not) has yet to be provided. And: The question is not if this can be done, but if it has been done. (For more about the possibilty of this being CGI, see at Coast To Coast; a separate thread on CGI in this forum can be found here.)

  • What are the reasons for this to be genuine?

    • An email sent to George Noory of Coast to Coast by a long-time Northrop Grumman subcontract manager, who comments on the documents provided by 'Isaac' as follows:

"After reading the formal report memorandum I can tell you this appears very authentic and seems to be written by a lead program manager or close to the top of a program engineering lead in the area described."

    • In the meantime, both the drone images and some of the CARET documents have been remote-viewed (the following 'RV' is short for 'Remote Viewing') by some members at ATS. Here's the result:

Talking RV, Omikron had promised on June 28th, over at ATS, that he and his partners would conduct an RV experiment on the drones images & CARET A1+2. He posted this today:

      "Hello Everyone,

In a previous post I said that I would have remote viewers gather data concerning these objects. Each remote viewer involved, excepting me, did not know what they were RVing.

The conclusions after analysis of the data collection is that it is a real object in the sky. The parts displayed on the isaac website are also real objects. That is all we know at this point. We do not know what they are for or who made them."

    • Update: "UFO drone analysis" by video professional, Keith Breazeal:

      His conclusion:

"In the several images of this "drone", I see no indication that the photos are faked. If they are fake, the individual that created it is not only top notch, but the software is well beyond anything I have seen."

  • Did the media already cover this?

On July 6, 2007, an article appeared in the online edition of the Tahoe Daily Tribune. In this article, another Lake Tahoe sighting has been reported, which is said to have taken place on June 19, 2007. While several 'drone' photographs appear in this article, the craft described by the witnesses was apparently none of the 'drone-type' craft:

"The dark, triangle-shaped object traveled very fast across the lake toward their home, and then slowed down as it approached her house, Dawn said. The object was completely silent, making no noise."

  • Where can I find more on this on the Internet?

For most of the sightings, there are link references to online resources at "Strange Craft" FAQ, pt. 1: Overview. In addition to the information provided in the various threads inside this forum, here's a collection of links related to the topic in general:

Obviously, quite a number of UFO sighting (regardless of shape) occured in the area, but the years go up to '2098', which is rather odd.

That looks like a reverse-y2k bug. They assume the 2 digits of the year are 20XX, so '86 (as in 1986) becomes 2086. So, that's probably 1998.

This was my impression, too.

Hi all,

I'm announcing that I am not going to maintain the FAQ any longer. So, if anyone feels like it ... . This was solely a voluntary contribution on my part; I wasn't "assigned" or something to do the job. My reason: I feel that there's no progress anymore on this whole issue.

So what are we meant to think about these things?

That they are 'alien' craft?

self flying craft that are doing what? monitoring life on earth?

How come these pictures are such good quality but, the 'UFO' pics are always blurry and out of focus?

what happened to them? why didnt they shoot these things down and inspect them, IF these are in fact NOT computer generated images. : ?

a lot of these 'Drone' things seem unbelievable, so i'll choose not too. How you can you not photograph these things and not call the cops and tell them them to bring guns, thats the first thing i would do, call the fire brigade even

After all the startling photos started popping up last year, I was intrigued as well, but couldn't get past the fact that all the "eyewitnesses" preferred to remain anonymous. Why? Surely thousands of ufos have been photographed by witnesses who have come forward without any retaliation. Why all of a sudden one type of craft would cause everyone to hide in anonymity escapes me.
My biggest hangup is with Chad. His claims about seeing the craft so often (and up close) defy common sense:
"Thank you so much for posting my photos! I hope someone can help identify this... First of all, I see this thing VERY often. Since it first appeared, I have probably seen this thing maybe 8 different times since the first appearance. My friend and I went out the next day after I first saw it to get the photos, but it was not there. Then we tried again the next day, and we found it within like 30 minutes and followed it for a while. Most of the time I see it out of windows in my house, in the distance. but I would say almost half of the hikes I have gone on in my area, I have seen it very close. It is very easy to photograph and...many neighbors aside from my friend have also seen it."

If I saw a UFO or a strange craft that often, I would not only have many more photographs, but I would also have taken video of it as well! In my opinion, there is no rational explanation for his lack of video (not to mention his failure to notify the police, the military, or even news media). Is this how normal rational people behave?
Let's suppose you see the same UFO every day for 4 consecutive days. Wouldn't a light bulb turn on in your head with the idea that you should use/buy/rent/borrow a video camera ASAP? Wouldn't a reasonable human being call the news media/police/army/neighbors? "Chad" saw this craft over 8 times! ::)
However, the quality of the photographs and the subsequent release of information by "Isaac" (who I am still not convinced exists) are what have kept me on the proverbial "fence" till this day. Open-minded, yet still skeptical.
Maybe these things are probes sent out by intelligences from other planets. Sent to earth and other distant worlds to relay data back to their home base. Similiar to the probes we send out to the other planets/moons in our solar system. Doesn't seem to far-fetched to me, since I believe there is no doubt that higher intelligences exist throughout the universe.

For hoaxes, do not forget Leviathan's work:

http://www.ufocasebook.com/anonymousstrangecraft.html

It is still out there and uncorrected (not identified as a hoax, even though it has been admitted to by Leviathan).

I am not a big fan of anonymous antidotal stories and photos.

Drones FAQ is available here ovnis-usa.com/drone_investigation_FAQ.pdf

Elevenaugust and myself have been answering emails sent to DRT during the latest media coverage. Hundreds of personal replies have been sent in two weeks. More than half claim hoax, almost all of those refer to Kris' videos as proof that he made all the drones.

I will let Kris speak for himself…

In my exchange of emails with Kris, Kris believes that some (at least… if not all) of the drone photos are CGI and explained to me why he thinks so. If Kris is the creator of the drones (which he has already denied), I am not sure why he would fight so hard to say they are fake (which would expose himself)… if he was the one behind the hoax. Just my thoughts.

There is no doubt that Kris is a very talented artist, and if anyone has the knowledge on how do this, he would be one of those people. Also, he is very aware of the limitations in the current CGI software. Exposing those limitations exposes photos that are CGI.

Let me add, Kris in his own words... from Kris Avery's Letter to io9.com:

“The videos I created, which eventually culminated into the music video for 'Drone' the musician are all inspired by the original photos. I myself am totally unsure as to the origin of the images beyond what I already known.. i.e., anonymous witnesses.

Since then, I have been accused of being the originator of the whole drone saga, and the photos were in fact just a viral campaign to promote the eventual video. This is definitely NOT the truth. In a way, I wish it had been, because that would make me some kind of viral genius, and I'd be in completely the wrong job lol.

I was involved in the discussions on OMF, Alien casebook, and other places for months, and the whole thing just reached a real frustrating deadlock between the believers and the non-believers ... or real/hoax argument. I'd made my point until I was blue in the face, and was met by people telling me that the CG I had created was nowhere near as good as what was being shown in the photos. So I knuckled down and set out to create a video and images that would shut them up. So really, it is the very people who refused to believe CG was capable of creating the images that pushed me on.

It is bizarre really. I'm not sure what people think I am, but honestly, I am just a normal guy who does 3D graphics for a living. I pay my bills, have a girlfriend, a dog, and am currently looking at doing a bit of decorating around the house.”

you guys may want to check it against the facts from this forum. it seems thorough.

I hate to seem like a Kill Joy but all of these "drones" are fake. I will find the site that did an investigation and had several people come forward to say that they know the style and look of these crafts from some program that enables you to create these things. Plus, the Italy vid is also a hoax which is the same along the lines to the "Haiti UFO's". Whoever made these had A LOT of time on their hands and are also quite talented.

Hi guerande: I can read posts for years it wouldn't mean a thing. You should read investigations and books before telling someone to read posts. Scroll up to the top......have you seen the Lightwave rendering prog? That's just one of many out there. I didn't learn about all this stuff yesterday......thanks anyways.
