I would suggest leaving Joiner's name out of it unless she offers her approval. There could be a chance of her getting her job back. We wouldn't want to jeopardize that chance, no matter how small, would we? And I'm sure she has many friends at the paper as well. Disgruntled emails in her honor could jeopardize those friendships. So I would refrain from mentioning Joiner unless she states that she is okay with it. We must respect her wishes. That is where she lives, after all.

I composed a response to the Empire-Tribune's Guestbook last Thursday, but it looks like it didn't make their cut. I wasn't protesting Angelia's firing (or however you want to define it), I was simply commending her for digging into the story and doing real journalism as opposed standard drive-by, tongue-in-cheek gigglefest that UFO stories normally get in the local press. I think I said something about the paper having the guts to publish it as well. Maybe that's why my comment didn't get printed... I may have hoisted them with their own petard!

edit to add that he has a form where you select who should be the recipient, newspaper or congressman.
Has she offered her approval for this?
I am not advocating signing up for this campaign. I am only pointing it out as news. No need to quote Jed to me. I already knew that and agree with it.

No problem, Mur.
Now back to the subject at hand.
I know Angelia's time is limited and she probably does not have an opportunity to answer everybody's questions. She has attempted to clear up the details surrounding her departure from the Empire Tribune at ATS. I don't think she'd mind me re-posting it to save her the trouble of answering any more questions about it here.

Hello danx, First let me say this--a story of this magnitude drains the resources of a small newspaper -- staff wise. I was the only full time reporter at the time. For two weeks solid (at least) other people had to pick up my slack. I could not keep up my normal workload. One month of good sales does not justify hiring more people and newspapers everywhere are competing for a smaller and smaller piece of the advertising pie. They were ready to let it go. But, I had no means to let it go, I was still the media contact, witness contact and you name it. Plus, I didn't want to miss a lead so I tried to work it after hours and on lunch hours. I guess, when they realized I was forwarding emails to my home and still answering some regarding the UFOs -- that distressed them. I do not believe they were contacted by some higher up telling them to stop the stories. If that were the case they would have told me. I was stretched to the limit but I didn't want to let go of the witnesses. It's funny but we all bonded through this and I know I'll talk to them for the rest of my life and we'll all keep trying to find out what it was. Remember, I had already given notice, so I don't know if that is fired or not but they asked for my keys and cell phone and told me to pack up and leave. And, it was not a pleasant scene for me. It was humiliating to pack up your belongings in a news room where everyone can plainly see what is going on. I was shaking and upset and drove straight to my husband's work. They knew how upset I was. I have learned some employees were told I was using my computer and newspaper time to look for a job. The only thing I did in that regard was to email a friend at the school administration building to see what I needed to do to update my paperwork to be able to begin substitute teaching. It might have taken me three minutes. I didn't think twice about it. Ok, Let's don't talk about that anymore, it puts my stomach in a knot.

Greetings to all OMF members! * I was interviewed by Ms. Joiner in the Empire-Tribune's 1/14/08 Front Page where the editor gave her 'some heat' for calling me, "an expert." Since then, Angelia and I have become very good friends, and what do you call someone who has studied, analyzed and lectured UFOs and Paranormal issues for over 30 years but 'an expert?' I have been called an 'expert' by many of the leading 'experts' in the field in the past years, including, Dr. Bob Heironimus of 21sh Century radio to name but one. I could make a short impressive list, yet the real problem is the 'heat' Ms. Joiner's editor gave her using that term to describe me to begin with! Hells and Bells: NASA called me 'an expert' at electronics when they hired me! But to get to the jest of the question here about writing to the editor on Ms. Joiner's behalf: I agree with many of the posts made herein, although I can tell you that it won't get Angelia her job back, even if she wanted it back. It would show a great deal of concern and support for Ms. Joiner, and regrettably, nothing else. The Empire-Tribune has already taken her computer, which was *their* computer to begin with, although the Rolodex might have been Angelia's; I don't know, but if they took it and based upon when I worked in TV news and radio: they supplied me with a Rolodex, which literally belonged to them; not me. I say, if you feel you have a need to defend Ms. Joiner's situation; go ahead. Will it do any good in terms of getting her job back; no, it will not. Your call entirely. I can tell you this: Angelia Joiner would be very grateful that you cared enough to send an email, although if worded in terms of hatred, she would not condone that. She is a peace loving woman and would like a 'low-profile' as she has told me. Blessings to all, Greywolf

before anyone posted to write, or not to write, i wrote the newspaper editor and said shame on you.
We cannot hold ourselves solely responsible for AJ's well being. While sending threats or anything like that could be harassment, complaints, addressed to the editor of a publication, are part and parcel of american freedom of speech, and are in all likelihood protected by the constitution.
I have written many , many people and organizations to express my disapproval of their policies. A short list would include, Irish republican army, the tamil tigers, the taliban govt of afghanistan, various senators and most especially publicy elected judges who make really bad decisions and call it 'the rule of law'.
I seriously doubt that OMF is going tobe the only source of outraged email regarding the firing of AJ, and i also seriously doubt that if there were any chance/desire of her getting her old job back, that the complaint email would serve any but the most positive purpose, because if no one wrote to them saying they were wrong to do that.....they wouldn't have reason to think it over.

i sent a carefully worded email in the end. Not in a hatred sort of way but a disapproval that she wasnt kept on. Hopefully she will stick around and learn about the whole area, she obviously has some skills that may come in handy but whatever she turns towards good luck to her

I agree with many other of the Posters herein: the Empire-Tribune certainly 'does not' need to hear of Angelia's name. After all folks: Angelia still has to live in that small Texas town. I know; I live in a small Texas town, although 10,000 more people than Stephenville (we are the county seat in Cleburne), people know each other, or they know 'of' each other, so venting to the E-T in Angelia's name just might bring her more heat than she really needs. I am in touch with her nearly every night, and trust me: she wants to just get on with her life and leave the newspaper behind. I, for one, think it was a cheap shot by the Editor to have fired her, just as it was a cheap shot when she barked at Angelia for calling me an 'expert' in the field of Ufology. After almost 40 years of study, proving and promoting via radio & TV interviews; what does that make me, a 'newbie?' Hells and Bells, NASA called me 'an expert' in electronics, and I only have a degree and a 1st Class F.C.C. License! When I was 9 years young, the Texas State Rodeo called me an 'expert' horseman and calf roper. Some say that I am 'an expert' in film directing because I have three Indie produced films under my belt, plus, I shared in an Emmy when I worked at PBS. Is that an 'expert?' Well, it was a cheap shot, and I was concerned when Angelia first told me about the editor giving her 'heat' over the term 'expert' in her Front Page article about me. Man, I didn't want her to lose her job over me and the term, 'expert!' And yet, why didn't the editor reject the story if she had a problem with the term in the first place? I could see that something bigger was about to happen. I figured, the Feds. Recall that the F.C.C. is a branch of the U.S. government, just as NASA is, although NASA began as a 'public' institution! Check it out, but that's another topic. * I can tell you this: the editor has changed and or diverted her email addy and phone number due to all of the flack she has gotten for firing AJ. She likely loses enough sleep already. Why not let 'sleep dogs lie? (not 'lay') ;-) Greywolf
