OMEFT Notes from the Field « Thread Started on Apr 2, 2008, 7:39pm »
Introduction:
I'm starting up this thread to post notes about our experiences in the inaugural Open Minds Expeditionary Field Team (OMEFT) intensive observing period (IOP) in greater Erath County, Texas. The idea is to get info out where everyone can see it as quickly as possible after events (assuming we have some events to talk about!). Sort of a blog, I guess. If we don't see anything, we'll fill the space with meticulous detail about mcRick's brisket-smoking techniques and how fetching we all look in our OMEFT T-shirts and caps! Anyhow, keep checking this space - the fun begins Friday 4 April 2008 and lasts through the weekend.

I had to drop out of the trip due to the job.
I wish you gutsy folks the best of luck! Keep your eyes on the sky and be careful up there.
I'll be listening from Houston. If something happens, and anyone would let me know, that would be great! My cell phone number and email addy is with Ontos. My email is posted in my profile too.

I'm sorry that you two folks can't make it. Next time?
I had forgotten how popular Shiner's is down that way, and it's darned good beer. I will throw a little in with the Bud Light. Never can be too prepared in a dry county. I like rum and coke myself, but some beer once in awhile. I wonder whether chef motorcycle Rick has used Head Country BBQ sauce before?
Until tomorrow.

How are our rain ceremony efforts looking out that way? We have succeeded in having pouring rain all day here on the Piedmont Plateau. We are greeting the Eastward moving rain clouds with great enthusiasm, asking them to invite all their Western relatives HERE, leaving Erath Big Beautiful Clear Skies throughout the IOP! We want the near future to be so bright for our IOP EFT OMies that you've gotta wear !!!
P.S. Raz, can you sneak me back some brisket?? Missing the historic First OM EFT UFO Round Up would be bad enough. But Missing the historic First OM UFO Round Up and Four Day Barbecue Party -- Now THAT's a horse of a different color!!!

Just want to wish all of you folks a good safe trip and good hunting. There is a huge crowd that will be with you in spirit. I really believe the OMEFT is the beginning of a new era for Open Minds!
I think you're going to meet some great people out there. Keep us posted!

Thanks to all the well wishers! We may have some not-so-well wishers also - that's to be expected. We've been working behind the scenes to conjure up plenty of good vibrations, so the OMEFT can get some of those excitations! OMEFT members, you'll get the full brief in person tomorrow. In the mean time, think a little bit about how you may want to be portrayed, ultimately, in public. There will be plenty of cameras and recorders, and some material will eventually be posted on openmindsforum.com. So consider two things:
How do you want to be portrayed? (no restrictions, video but no face, no video but audio OK, or no video or audio) How do you want to be known? (Full name, First name + last initial, First name only, or OMF screen name)
The underlined entries are the presumed defaults. This weekend you can let us know what you prefer.
I will try to get some non-incriminating photos posted up each day in this thread, bandwidth permitting.

I usually make my own, however I did not this time, sorry. I arrived at Ricky's today, worked on a brisket all day and am now eating some (Rick cut it in half, and ran into his house with one half ) We did a bit of yard cleaning for the BBQ Saturday. I am also told that we may have a surprise visit from someone....ok, I am sworn to secrecy, but this person called Ricky today (out of the blue-*hint hint*) and said that they may be here Saturday. The sky has cleared for tonight, and the stars are big and bright.
